Tim BailyTim BailyIn 1993 Tim Baily formed the African Angler and had the privilege of being the first to pioneer boat safaris on Lake Nasser. For the past 17 years we have been operating sport fishing safaris targeting and then releasing one of the biggest fresh water fish in the world - the legendary Nile perch. As one of the leading authorities on the Nile Perch in 2009 Tim co-authored the book “Nile Perch the Ultimate Guide for Anglers”.

Over the years the African Angler has become a household name throughout the angling world for its first class safaris; using the experience gained by our safari teams and guides, we have recently introduced the concept of ecology related holidays to this picturesque desert lake.

Our Eco Holidays on Lake Nasser are as close to the real meaning of the word “safari” as you are likely to find. Our safaris are similar to the old ‘Hemingway’ style of safari in Africa where 4x4 vehicles were used for travelling, while large support trucks with the equipment and safari crew went on ahead to set up camps. An African Angler safari is the same except we use boats instead of four wheel drive vehicles. Safari units are made up of live- aboard safari boats supported by mother ships which have built in kitchens, dining and recreation areas, toilets and showers. This provides the requirements for a comfortable camp plus the unique experience of being out in a desert wilderness.

Our dedicated fishing safaris are ‘second to none’ and most anglers who visit Lake Nasser for the first time will catch the largest fresh water fish of their life; practically everyone achieves this goal and has an angling adventure they will never forget.

The African Angler is the leading authority on all types of specialized tourism to southern Egypt from Aswan, Lake Nasser to Abu Simbel. Also, with 17 years experience working in Egypt, we have an intimate knowledge of mainland Egypt and are experts at tailor making holidays for individuals and small groups.

The company is registered in Australia and is a family business owned and managed by Tim and his brother Peter Baily; both were born and raised in Kenya, and have been involved in the safari business for most of their lives. This experience has helped to bring the atmosphere of a traditional Kenya safari to Lake Nasser.

Peter runs the office in Sydney whilst Tim with our Egyptian partner Nabil Abd El Moete runs the Aswan office and the safari operations.
Our Nubian Safari Crews are also equally experienced; most of the guides, cooks and service staff with the African Angler for more than 10 years.

Nile Perch the "Ultimate Guide for Anglers"

This book is co-authored by Tim Baily who pioneered Nile Perch safaris on Lake Nasser and is a world authority on the subject of fishing for this huge predator and Barrie Rickards an experienced pike angler and fishing journalist who was captivated by Nile perch and Lake Nasser.

It is only since the 1980's that ordinary anglers have been able to fish regularly for the legendary Nile perch, which is one of the biggest freshwater fish in the world. This book is a comprehensive study of how they can be caught and provides the reader with information about all aspects of the Nile Perch including their biology, ecology, distribution, and even how to cook them.

The book concentrates on Lake Nasser where most of the modern Nile Perch fishing techniques have been developed. However, the authors also consider other places in Africa where these enormous fish occur and can be captured. Brimming with information, the book explains everything there is to know on the subject and is also beautifully illustrated with over 150 color photographs.
