Camp site with a mother ship and live aboard safari boatsCamp site with a mother ship and live aboard safari boats
Large modern cruise ships, filled with passengers cruise down the middle of Lake Nasser visiting archaeological sites and experiencing the lakes beautiful desert panorama from a distance.
We offer a completely different cruise experience, boat safaris which explore the remote and wild areas of this picturesque lake and let you fully appreciate the magic of its wilderness, wild life and nomadic people.

Boat safaris are similar to the old ‘Hemmingway’ African style of safari where 4X4 vehicles were used for travelling, while large support trucks with the equipment and safari crew went on ahead to set up luxury camps. Our safaris are similar except we use boats instead of 4x4 vehicles. Safari units are made up of live aboard safari boats which are used to explore the lake. The live aboard boats are supported by mother ships with modern conveniences such as built in kitchens, dining areas, sun decks, toilets and shower units.

The lake has an impressive variety of birds, mammals, and reptiles and is an important staging point for migrant and over-wintering birds. In many areas of the Lake, crocodiles and monitor lizards have made their homes. Other types of wildlife including Dorcas gazelle, jackals, desert fox, and various smaller desert mammals also inhabit the shoreline and islands.

Lake Nasser is populated by a small number of transient peasant fishermen and the residents are Bedouin camel and sheep herdsmen, who are seen grazing their flocks on the sparse vegetation growing on the edge of the Lake. The area also has several important The lake supports an impressive variety of bird lifeThe lake supports an impressive variety of bird lifeNubian archaeological sites which were rescued from being inundated by the rising lake; the most notable are the temples of Abu Simbel, which were built by the Pharaoh Ramses II in 1200 BC.

On safari the days are spent exploring the lake while travelling between camps which are located on clean sandy beaches; there are plenty of opportunities to walk along the lake’s shoreline exploring the captivating desert environment. At night, one hears all sorts of sounds frogs, crickets, the call of an owl, howling jackals and night birds. When the lights have been turned off the area comes alive. Gerbils scout around for leftovers and desert foxes or Golden Jackals are also likely to be found searching for titbits. We encourage these remarkably tame animals by feeding them.

"These safaris are not just angling and fishing. To sit back under a big, full sky full of stars, eating, drinking and yarning, listening to the desert sounds.... are a super experience, both exciting and relaxing simultaneously ".
The late Barrie Rickards: Professor of Palaeontology and Biostratigraphy at Cambridge University.

Spoon Billed StorksSpoon Billed StorksLake Nasser Eco Safari - 7 Nights & 8 Days

This holiday is ideal for people who like a healthy outdoor life and are interested in nature and beautiful places. Our Nubian guides are not wildlife experts but they do have a love for the natural world and, most importantly, they have many years experience on the lake and know where to find the animals, birds, places of interest and the friendly Bedouin grazing their camel and sheep flocks on the shore of the lake.

For bird watching, the best time to come is during autumn and spring when millions of migrating birds pass through Egypt. The unique geographical position of Egypt, acting as a bridge between the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa, is the reason why so many migrating birds concentrate in this area. Great desert nature and bird watching combined with the safari atmosphere makes this is a truly unique experience.
