John Wilson with a nice 45 pounder caught shore fishingIn 1993 the African Angler had the privilege of pioneering fishing safaris on Lake Nasser situated on the river Nile in Southern Egypt; 1993 was approximately 30 years after the Aswan High Dam which formed Lake Nasser was first created. For the past 17 years we have been operating big game fresh water fishing safaris targeting one of the biggest fresh water fish in the world the legendary Nile perch.
The Aswan High Dam was built in the 1960's and, the resulting Lake Nasser flooded over 5,250 km2 of the Nile Valley, creating one of the largest manmade lakes in Africa. The fish populations of the original river system were presented with a huge lake to live in and have thrived in their new habitat, especially the Tilapia and their predators, Nile perch, Tiger fish and big catfish.
Most anglers who visit Lake Nasser for the first time will catch the largest fresh water fish of their life; practically everyone will achieve this goal and have an angling adventure that they will never forget.
Safari units are made up of two or three live aboard fishing boats or house boats which are skippered by experienced English speaking Nubian fishing guides. The fishing boats and house boats are supported by mother ships manned by a skilled safari crew who will look after you during the safari. The mother ships have a built in kitchen, dining and recreation areas, toilets and showers providing you with all the requirements for a comfortable camp.
We operate two kinds of fishing safari, each offering slightly different options. Or, if you are just passing through Aswan, and don’t have enough time to come on a proper safari, we can arrange for you to come for a day fishing and return to your hotel or Nile cruise ship in the evening.

Lake Nasser Safari
This safari is designed for anglers who would like to come on their own or with a friend and then join in the atmosphere of a sociable camp with other fishermen. If you would like to book a single place on one of these safaris you are welcome, we will guarantee your place and then try to find a suitable partner for you to fish with and if we are not successful then you will have the fishing boat for your own use.

Nubian Safari (Private Safari)
Dune camp site, Mother ship, fishing and stealth boatA Nubian safari consists of one or more fishing boats which are supported by a mother ship. This safari can start or end on any day of the year and last for as long as is required which is ideal for anglers who would like to have the flexibility of deciding how long they want to stay on a fishing safari.This safari also offers a degree of independence which many anglers prefer and is ideal for a small group of friends who would like to set out and explore the lake, at their own pace, on a private fishing adventure that has few equals anywhere.

House & Stealth Boat Combo
House boats are more spacious and offer more facilities than a fishing boat. They have two spacious cabins which can sleep up to four people comfortably and are fitted with a toilet & shower and a small galley which also contains an ice box with cold drinks with amenities for making tea or coffee. The electricity supply comes from an on board generator and both 12 & 240 volt electric systems are installed.
House & Stealth Boat ComboHouse boats are not designed as a fishing platform; you can troll from them and use them to reach fishing areas but they are too big and obtrusive for serious fishing. If you are a serious angler you will need to include a Stealth Boat then you can live comfortably aboard a spacious house boat and use it to reach the best fishing areas where you can go fishing in the smaller Stealth Boat which is a custom built fishing platform.

Day Fishing
If you are passing through Aswan, you can come day fishing on any day of the year. We will collect you from your hotel or cruise ship at 08.00am and then transfer you to your fishing boat for full day’s fishing. We return to Aswan approximately 4.30pm where we will transfer you back to your hotel or cruise ship.
